Culprits to lose one month salary, eventual sack

The Executive Chairman of Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar has directed all school Principals to note down and report all absentee teachers under their supervision to the commission for appropriate sanctions.

This directive came on the heel of reports of rampant absenteeism without permission among school teachers who abandone their duty posts and students to their own fate.

According to a release directed to all Principals and relevant stakeholders in the education sector signed for and on behalf of the Executive Chairman by Dr. Omogoye-Ojo Bamidele Ayodeji (FCIHRM), all erring teachers will have their salaries withheld for three months during which their conduct will be monitored.

According to the release, “I have been directed by the Executive Chairman Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar to notify all principals that with effect from this new term any Teacher or Staff of the Commission who absconds from duty or is absent from school without permission and is being reported by the Principal will have his/her salary put on hold for (3 )Three Months and such salary would not be restored or reinstated after the three months punishment is lifted.”

“In addition, if such an officer is reported for the same offence the second time, or refuses to go to school during the time of punishment the officer will face an administrative panel (SSMC) and  such officers appointment will be terminated on the grounds of abscondment from duty in line with the PSR 04401.

“Therefore, You are all advised to circulate the content of this information to your staff as ignorance in law is not an excuse for punishment.”

In view of this, it becomes imperative that all teachers sit tight and do the work for which they were employed and failure to adhere to laid down rules will have dare consequences for all daring members of staff and teachers of the commission.
